Kursbeschreibung / -kommentar

This course is taught in English in the summer semester. It examines in depth two extreme cases relevant to competition theory: (a) the U.S. vs Microsoft case and (b) open source software. Case (a) refers to monopolistic based considerations in pricing and profit behaviour and (b) the exact opposite, refers to altruistic and/or not-for-pay contributions to software productions. The course uses theoretical and empirical papers directly out of the literature to examine both extreme cases. The final exam is set in English but can be written in English or German. The course is open to Bachelor/Diplom students.
